5 Common Technology Problems (and How to Resolve Them)

We’re willing to bet good money on the fact that your business suffers more technology problems than you’d like (but don’t hold us to that). Sometimes the problems are more complex, but many are simple and can be addressed quickly without the need for a professional. Today, we want to help you with some of the basics so you can know for sure when something is outside of your wheelhouse.

Slow Technology

If your computer is slower than you’d like, there’s a good chance there’s something wrong with it. This can happen if you’re low on memory, or RAM, but it can also come from too many apps being open, a malware infection, or a cluttered hard drive. You can fix this by freeing up hard drive space, closing unused apps, and stopping programs from automatically starting. If the problem persists, that’s when it is time to consider upgrading your RAM.

Overheating Components

Computers are machines, and machines can become damaged if they overheat. If your devices are getting too hot, there could be dust buildup, poor airflow, or even a broken fan component. Consider cleaning out your computer vents and fans to ensure proper airflow, or use a cooling pad for a laptop.

The Blue Screen of Death

The BSOD is a nasty error message that forces a restart for your computer. This is often caused by hardware issues, driver problems, corrupt files, or bugs. You can usually resolve this issue by updating drivers, scanning for malware, testing hardware, or performing a system restore. If you don’t know anything about driver-related issues, and you experience a BSOD, we recommend you contact your IT administrator as soon as possible to address the problem.

Connectivity Problems

If you have constant Internet connection problems, they might stem from a router, your Internet service provider, outdated network drivers, or incorrect settings. Try restarting your router and see what happens. You can also consider updating your network drivers, using your computer’s built-in network troubleshooter, or contacting your ISP for issues related to your Internet connection.

Crashing Apps

Apps fuel your productivity, so it’s a big problem when they don’t work the way they should. Whether it’s a software bug, a lack of system resources, compatibility issues, or corrupted files, there’s a fix. You can try force-quitting the app in Task Manager, updating or reinstalling the application, or checking for system updates to resolve them.

The good news: most of these issues can be addressed through routine maintenance and proactive action. Take care of your technology, and you take care of your business. If you want to give your technology the care it deserves, call BNMC today at (978) 482-2020.
